Family Service Counselors provide in-home family counseling services to youths and their families that are experiencing problems. The counselor works closely with the family to address the issues that the family sees as concerns. A skill-building component helps the family learn new ways to work together. The counseling emphasizes empowering family members to make positive changes.

Youth Shelter Care Family Services provides services to children and their families through the Remedial Services Program. Young people with mental health issues and their families can receive in-home services as recommended by a Licensed Professional of the Healing Arts (LPHA). Services can be ordered by the family's current mental health provider or our staff can assist the family in accessing those services.

Youth Shelter Care counselors have been trained as facilitators for the Family Unity/Family Group Decision Making Model. The model allows family members and other persons significant to the family to come together for a family team meeting. During the meeting, the facilitator assists the family in developing a plan to address concerns that have been identified.

Crisis Intervention Services are available on a twenty-four hour basis. The services can be accessed by DHS social workers, Juvenile Court Officers and law enforcement personnel. A Crisis Interventionist is available to address the crisis immediately with a goal of preventing out of home placements. For furter information about crisis intervention services, please contact the Family Services Coordinator.
